I just attended the NYSCATE Conference in Rochester, NY. Gary Stager one of the speakers showed the video linked below. What a difference technology is making in our world. It is linking children to people and ideas that were unthinkable just a few years ago. More importantly the "One Laptop Per Child" project is helping some of the poorest countries in the world leapfrog into this young century. If you find yourself wondering about a charity to contribute to this holiday season then watch the video below and you will know what to do.

First A Dream

I remember so vividly where I was the day John F. Kennedy died. I was in Mrs. Hart’s class when the principal came over the PA system to announce the president had been shot. As young as we were we sat stunned unable to comphrehend the magnitude of this moment in history.

On this 45th anniversary of his passing it seems appropriate to remember not just his passing but the dream he ignited by pledging to put a man on the moon before 1970. At the time it seemed impossible, undoable and just plain crazy. The surge in the teaching of science and math that would follow would create wondrous new tools that we take for granted today, ranging from microwaves to velcro.

If anything Kennedy’s speech proved that if you can dream it, you can do it. Let’s bring that same spirit to revamping education today. We can dream it and will and must do it for our students to compete in this flattened world.

Frank Abgnale the character Leonardo DiCaprio played in "Catch Me If You Can" has been working on helping people and companies protect themselves from identity theft for years. Most recently he spoke to a Cyber Safety Summit in NYC. If you click onthe link below his picture will appear on the right a 31 minute video will start. Thirty one minutes may seem like a long time but you will be absolutely amazed by what you learn and need to know. It is an absolute necessity to know the things he shares for you and your families protection.
