2020 Vision Brochure

We have created a brochure which outlines our 2020 Vision for Brighton Central Schools.

What is the 2020 Vision Initiative?

Throughout the 2006-07 school year the Board of Education and Superintendent gathered input on what education should like for Brighton Central Schools.

  • What should our schools look like in 2020?
  • What do students do in those schools?
  • What do teachers do in those schools?
  • What do we need to do now to get there?

The answers to these questions fell into eight topics:

  1. Safe, Healthy Environments
  2. Strong Starts
  3. Global Perspectives
  4. Active and Engaged Learning
  5. Effective Communication
  6. Individual Flexibility
  7. Collaborative Work
  8. Real World Applications

Our 2020 Vision Overview presentation introduces these eight topics and expands on each one.

How was the 2020 Vision created?

The 2020 Vision was created with the input from all of the constituencies that make up the Brighton School Community. The common thread is that everyone wants our schools to remain excellent, world class and competitive. The process of gathering input was very inclusive and included any community member willing to attend a forum and voice their opinion, a blog open to any member of the community, presentations to existing groups such as PTSA, Brighton Education Fund and AGATE. Input was also solicited at special gatherings such as the annual Community Leaders Breakfast, and the Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting. A Presidential Panel of invited “experts” in leadership roles at local universities and businesses also provided input. Finally, the Superintendent Conference Days in December 2006 and January 2007 were devoted to gathering faculty and staff input as well.  In all over 500 people addressed these four questions.

Many of the ideas embodied in the 2020 Vision are already up and running, others will take planning, training and vision to go where no schools have gone before. Our goal is to provide a world-class education for all of our students.

Please bookmark this page as we will be highlighting our implementation efforts on a monthly basis through our 2020 Vision Check videos that are accessible from this webpage or Cable Channel 12.
